AETOS Security Management Awarded "A" Grade by Security Industry Regulatory Department (SIRD)
Singapore, 8 October 2007 - Extract from TODAY
GRADED "B" last year in Singapore's first industry-wide security agency audit exercise, the Republic's biggest security firm Certis Cisco had made changes that it believed would improve its standing.
But
despite increasing the supervisor-to-officer ration and lowering its
attrition rate, the former statutory board did not manage to get an
"A", garnering a "B" again, accordin to results released yesterday by
the Security Industry Regulatory Department (SIRD) of the Singapore
Police Force that conducted the voluntary audit.
Certis
Cisco is unfazed. Said its spokesperson: " The SIRD review is like one
of many exams we take. Like all exams, the results are not fully
indicative of one's capabilties. Although we did not fare as well as we
had expected to in this 'exam', we will strive harder and work towards an improved grading."
In
the past year, some of the company's "security operational processes
and measures" had "exceeded industrial norms"' said its spokesperson.
"There
is more demand from our customers than we are able to meet. There is
currently a two-month waiting period for customers who wish to engage
Certis Cisco Protection Services Pte Ltd," it told TODAY. It has been
re-certified with ISO9000 standard this year and has grown the number
of its guards more than threefold in the past three years to the
current 1,200.
Of
the 270 security agencies in Singapore, 86 did not participate in the
grading exercise. Of those that did, 19 were graded "A", 76 were graded
"B", 58 got a "C" and 31 garnered a "D". - NAZRY BAHRAWI.

Staff Praised by Deputy Prime Minister
Singapore, 14 September 2007 - At the recent National Security
Seminar held at National University of Singapore (NUS) on 12 September 2007,
Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Mr S. Jayakumar addressed several issues relating to
security and highlighted the importance of maintaining a safe and secured
environment in Singapore.
He added that security associations and government agencies had to keep a
vigilant watch and ensure that there will be no chance for any catastrophes and
terrorist attacks in Singapore.
DPM Jayakumar also paid tribute to people in the front line who performed their
duties diligently and played their part in keeping Singapore
safe and secure.
“The
best policies or equipment are irrelevant if they are not executed by dedicated
and well-trained people,” said Professor Jayakumar, who is also Law Minister and
the Co-ordinating Minister for National Security. Corporal (Cpl) (APF) Arasu
was praised by DPM for being alert and attentive during his work that successfully
nipped a potential security risk in the bud for an incident that happened in
June. Cpl Arasu was observant and alert to identify a suspicious couple
when they were asked to produce Bulgarian passports. “They were nervously
watching me. So when they showed me the Bulgarian passports, I asked where they
came from,” said Cpl (APF) Arasu. He sensed something amiss when
the couple could only speak English and Arab. He then asked a Bulgarian
woman who was taking the same flight to act as an interpreter. Cpl (APF)
Arasu’s suspicion was confirmed when the Bulgarian woman revealed that they
could not speak a single word of Bulgarian. A thorough check was conducted on
the couple’s passports and a number of discrepancies were spotted. The couple
were subsequently arrested by the state police.
Cpl
(APF) Arasu shared his views on the praises received from DPM Jayakumar:
“I am
glad to find that the front liners were being appreciated and recognised for
their efforts. I am grateful to the management of AETOS and my team mates for
their strong support and guidance. Together with my team and fellow colleagues,
we will perform our best and make AETOS the best security company in Singapore."
AETOS
is proud to have committed, sharp and professional staff like Cpl (APF) Arasu.
